  • Where Did July Go?

    Sometimes life’s demands simply cannot be met by being online. July was that kind of a month. After the fantastic time in Korea, our family was able to get some brief time together at our new home before going three separate directions. Now we’re back together, hanging ceiling fans, painting bedrooms, and carving out some margin to reflect on the past and dream about the future. That feels nice. Too much action without reflection puts us on the pathway to poor leadership in every arena.

    Today is my daughter’s 15th birthday. Named after two godly Amys of faith (Amy Carmichael and Amy J McGuffey), I ‘m thankful to see her walking in their steps. All three women possess the ability to leave one culture and bring welcoming warmth into new places. Amy’s bubbly joy-filled personality brings light and smiles into the room and into my heart. I’m proud to be her dad. Happy birthday, Amy. Keep walking strong.

    Lesson for us: Regularly take time to reflect, celebrate and reload.

  • The Rubber Meets the Road: The Pledge

    Now, on the last day, we have been called to take the next step of obedience in following Jesus. How about you, friend? Are you willing to consider “Going to the Nations for the Glory of God?”

    Because…

    …the lost can not perceive the majesty of the Lord, and God deserves the glory, honor and praise of all.

    …God desires the ends of the earth turn to Him and be saved

    …Christ died for all; therefore all deserve the opportunity to hear the Gospel.

    …the Lord deserves the rewards of Christ’s suffering, which are the redeemed from every nation.

    …the deepest needs of the human race can only be met by Jesus Christ.

    …Jesus said “the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few”.

    …Jesus made me a light to the nations, so that His salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

    Because of these…

    … I choose to invest my time, energy, resources, and abilities in light of eternity, to follow Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit, in unity with the Body of Christ.
    In full surrender to Him, I will go to the unevangelized university students of the world, and beyond, “that the earth may be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea!”

  • Small World: Episode 23


    OK, yesterday’s theme was Connected Movements. Check this out…

    Last night on my way through the 15,000+ dinner crowd, I saw a gal sporting an Italia jacket. Thinking she might be an Italian student, I introduced myself. “No, we’re not Italian, but were just there on a mission project last week.”
    “What city were you in?” I asked.

    “Florence,” came the reply.

    “Really! My sister lives there,” says I.

    This started three minutes of excited gushes from Charlotte, Megan and Andrea, as they told me how they had dinner in my sister Carrie’s home LAST WEEK, how much they loved their family, her husband Gary’s leadership, etc, etc. Gary and Carrie followed the Lord’s leading to Italy last fall where they are trusting God to plant a new student movement in very hard soil.
